Cris Mercado founded GrantAnswers, an award-winning social enterprise that provides services and tools to help students with scholarships, admissions opportunities and college readiness. GrantAnswers was inspired by his impact at the City College of New York’s Upward Bound Program, which experienced a +90% high school graduation rate under his tenure, with approximately 200 underrepresented youth ascending to college and earning $1.2 million in scholarships/grants.
Cris Mercado’s expertise was also shaped by his student debt-free experience as an undocumented immigrant from 1st grade to Ph.D. study in Criminal Justice at the City University of New York (CUNY). He received a BA in Psychology from the City College of New York and an MA in Criminal Justice from John Jay College.
Cris previously worked for the NYC Board of Education, the NYC Department of Homeless Services, New York City Housing Authority’s Broadband Technology Opportunities Program and the Foundation Center.
Cris serves as a 2014 mentor coach for America Needs You.
