NYNY Graduates Its First Class of Fellows!
New York, NY – New York Needs You (NYNY), a non-profit organization which closes the opportunity gap for high-potential, first-generation college students through comprehensive career mentorship, graduated its inaugural class of Fellows on Saturday, May 5, 2012. The graduation ceremony took place at Goldman Sachs, and featured a variety of speakers including NYNY Founder and President, Robert Reffkin, NYNY CEO, PJ Kim, former NYNY Executive Director, Nicole Lindsay, NYNY Fellows and Mentor Coaches, and NYC Public Advocate, Bill de Blasio. A graduation reception for NYNY Fellows, their family members, and NYNY volunteers, took place directly after the ceremony at Gansevoort Park Avenue’s Ristorante Asellina.
The graduating class of Fellows is a model of college and career success. The NYNY graduation rate for this first class is a staggering 94%. During their time in the Fellows Program, 84% of the individuals who started at community college transferred to four-year schools such as NYU, Cornell, Brooklyn College, and Baruch College. The average GPA of the class is an impressive 3.59. These Fellows also completed high profile internships at Morgan Stanley, CHANEL, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, and a number of other organizations. Following the first year of the program, 49 out of 50 Fellows secured and completed summer internships. Many received follow-up internship offers, which they will take advantage of this summer, while others will explore new and exciting internship opportunities. Some of those who are graduating from four-year schools as well as the NYNY Fellows Program will embark on their careers or begin law school and PhD programs.
NYNY is delighted by the accomplishments of its first class. The Fellows and their Mentor Coaches worked together superbly to produce extraordinary results by connecting opportunities with Fellows’ talent, hard work, and ambition.
