I was born and raised in the Bronx, where I grew up in a single parent household in which my mother took care of my brother and me. Growing up in the Bronx, I was surrounded by many people whose lives were determined by negative circumstances and conditions. However, throughout my childhood, my mom and two aunts served as my inspiration and support system. They always iterated that I had the potential to overcome the obstacles that were set before me and that I could achieve any goals I set for myself.
Currently I am a student at Barnard College where I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a focus in American Government. I eventually want to go to law school and become an attorney. My interest in law is one that has grown over the years. I am especially interested in urban politics, civil rights and civil liberties. As an attorney, I want to advocate for victims’ rights and support people who are unable to pay for the necessary legal assistance to execute a compelling case.
New York Needs You is a program that I am so grateful to be a part of. The program provides me with vital professional support and resources which I would not have had access to otherwise. In addition, I am able to meet mentors from many different fields and learn about new opportunities. Being a NYNY Fellow gives me the opportunity to interact with peers with similar goals and allows me to grow both professionally and personally.
