I am a rising junior at Barnard College studying psychology and education. With these two majors, I hope to understand not only how or why people behave the way they do, but also how to become an effective teacher.
My parents immigrated to this country with one goal in mind: to give their children the best education possible. Although they couldn’t check my complicated math homework, they made sure I did my best to complete it and encouraged me to ask for help when I needed it. With their support, I have been able to succeed academically and socially. I hope that one day I can repay them for everything they have sacrificed for me.
Teaching has always been a calling to me. Being patient, organized, and calm in stressful situations has always been my strong suit. I enjoy working with other people. It feels natural to learn the art of teaching at Barnard. These skills landed me a Corporate Responsibility internship with New York Life Insurance Company. Here, I have gained many skills, such as event planning, working with excel, organizing community service projects and maintaining budgets. I hope to transfer these skills, as well as teaching and working well with others, to a role in Human Resources.
I find New York Needs You to be an excellent place for mentorship and guidance. I hope to meet someone that can steer me in the right direction and can help me understand all the functions of human resources and where I would fit in best.
