I grew up in Guayaquil, Ecuador under the care of a single mother. Throughout my life, I witnessed my mother’s determination to work hard so that I could pursue my dreams. I am fortunate to have a supportive single mother who provided me with an enjoyable childhood; however, as I grew up, I realized that not all children are born into circumstances like my own. This realization made me particularly interested in human rights and in what I can do to prevent injustice around the world. I would like to fight for the women and children who are unable to fight for themselves, whether it is due to conflict, gender discrimination, sexual violence or trafficking. Children should be able to have healthy childhoods, and women should be able to provide for their children without having their rights violated. As a human rights lawyer, I will fight for the exploited and oppressed around the world, and I will dedicate my life to ensuring that no human being is left behind.
I am very fortunate to be an NYNY Fellow. I never imagined a program where I could meet fascinating Mentors, goal-oriented Fellows, and incredible staff members who provide the encouragement to work hard for our dreams. NYNY has helped me be more ambitious and determined to pursue my career. I am confident that with my hard work, NYNY will help me to succeed in life.
