NYNY Internships: Legal Information for Families Today and Raines International
I want to give back not only to my single mother who supported me with her back-breaking work, but to low-income families throughout America. Pursuing a career in public interest law will allow me to accomplish this. My mother’s motivation to keep our family running is also the motivation that feeds my ambition to achieve the American Dream. I know the most effective way to accomplish this is with knowledge. Education will provide the set of wings that will enable me to fly toward success and far, far away from failure. Education gives me the tools to climb the mountain of hardship and reach the American Dream awaiting me at the summit.
My mother continually instructs me to be humble and remember where I came from. I have resolved to remain true to these words, and I will grow to be someone who gives back to those who are in need. In the fall I will volunteer at a non-profit law firm to help underprivileged families pro bono, which will help me prepare for a career in public interest law. Although it may be difficult, I will not let money persuade me to take another route. What my upbringing taught me is that no amount of money in the world can bring happiness like that which flows from a loving support system and altruistic actions.
NYNY means so much to me that it is beyond words. As a first-generation college student, I assumed I was left to fend for myself. I was amazed, however, to learn that such an organization exists that assists students like me who are ambitious and self-motivated, but lack an understanding of how to transform that energy into success. The NYNY organization is such a positive support system; I am endlessly grateful to be a part of it.
