College: Baruch College
I am a native New Yorker, born and raised in Queens. My parents emigrated from Peru to the United States during the 1980s with the hopes of providing me with a better education and infinite career opportunities. My parents are very supportive. They give me the confidence to persevere and taught me the value of a strong work ethic. I value their belief in me – if you lose confidence in yourself, it is important to have someone that has confidence in you. Alongside my family, throughout my educational and professional journey, I’ve been fortunate to have a number of people support my personal and professional development. Through their advice and support, I have come to admire ambitious people. They motivate me to continuously challenge myself.
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at Baruch College. Although I originally chose to major in Psychology, I changed my major to Finance & Investments with a minor in Psychology. I still find Psychology to be a fascinating subject, and the notion of working in an advisory role to individuals as a counselor or therapist has always been very appealing to me. However, currently I am even more drawn to the dynamic nature of Finance and the vast career opportunities within the field. In the world of Finance, I can still fulfill an advisory role, but on a much larger scale by advising companies in a career as an investment banker.
Alongside my career aspirations, contributing to my community is an important part of my life. I am currently a Team Leader at New York Cares, a volunteer organization in the metropolitan area that provides a multitude of services to the residents of New York City. I organize a weekly chess club for young children where I manage a team of volunteers to teach children the fundamental strategies of chess in order to give them a strategic and analytical method of thought that can be applied to many aspects of their lives.
New York Needs You provides a fountain of knowledge from experienced professionals that will help me navigate the challenges of building a successful career. The individual Mentor Coaches and various networking opportunities are especially helpful in expanding my professional trajectory. I look forward to meeting the network of NYNY and having resources to launch a career in investment banking.
