Greetings!

It is with great pleasure that I introduce to you the first issue of the New York Needs You Newsletter! It has been a great year so far. Since our program launch in June, we have hosted 7 workshops for our inaugural class of 50 Fellows. We have also engaged more than 130 amazing volunteers, as Mentor-Coaches and Industry Specialists.

Our newsletter will keep you updated on what is going on at NYNY. Each month, we will feature two Fellows and share more about their dreams, aspirations and experiences. We will also highlight exciting volunteer opportunities.

We look forward to sharing updates on our organization, our program and especially, on our Fellows. Thank you for being a supporter of NYNY!

Sincerely,

Nicole Lindsay

2010 Inaugural Benefit

(l-r) Andrew Marks - NYNY Board Member, Howard Marks - Benefit Honoree, Cory Booker - Benefit Honoree, Robert Reffkin - Founder and President of NYNY(l-r) Andrew Marks - NYNY Board Member, Howard Marks - Benefit Honoree, Mayor Cory Booker - Benefit Honoree, Robert Reffkin - Founder and President of NYNY
On Wednesday September 15, New York Needs You held its Inaugural Benefit Dinner at Cipriani on 42nd St. We were grateful to welcome over 580 esteemed guests that helped us honor Mayor Cory Booker of Newark, New Jersey and Howard Marks, Founder and Chairman of Oaktree Capital Management.

Guests were able to mix and mingle with the Fellows in the program as well as many of NYNY's strong supporters. The event included a silent auction with a wide range of items such as tickets to P. Diddy's birthday party, lunch with Howard Marks, and a luxury vacation in Maui - to name a few.

Two NYNY Fellows, Maria and Anival served as emcees for the night and three other fellows, Lorik, Elena and Felix, shared their stories with the audience.

NYNY raised more than $1.1 million from the event that will be used to increase the number of Fellows that the organization serves. The Fellows in particular were extremely excited; one Fellow remarked "this event was the best night of my life". This Benefit reinvigorated everyone involved with New York Needs You and will serve as great inspiration as the recruiting process for the second class of NYNY Fellows begins.
