New York Needs You Runs the NYC Marathon

Dear Friends,

The 2012 New York City Marathon was cancelled because of Hurricane Sandy. The New York Needs You event at the Bowery Hotel has been cancelled as well. We will reach out to you if we can reschedule the event once recovery efforts for hurricane Sandy are further along and our network, neighbors, and the NYNY Fellows have the resources they need.

We are enormously grateful for your continued support of our work and for the impressive efforts of Robert, Keith, Josh, Melissa, Nasir, PJ, Will, and Gabrielle in their preparation for this marathon and fund raising on behalf of NYNY. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by recent events and we look forward to seeing you as soon as possible!

Just five years ago, Robert Reffkin, New York Needs You Founder and Board Chair, began a mission of running 50 marathons, one in each state, with the goal of raising $1 million for NYNY and the other nonprofits that helped him achieve success. The 2012 ING Roadrunners NYC marathon on Nov. 4th will be Robert’s 50th and final marathon towards this goal, and he is less than $100,000 away from reaching his financial goal. To help him reach the finish line, five NYNY volunteers—Melissa Kinckle, Keith Putnam-Delaney, Nasir Qadree, Josh Weissenstein, and Will Yu—have formed Team NYNY and will join Robert in running the NYC Marathon, in addition to raising $10,000 each.
