A year and a half ago, my family immigrated to the United States from Shanghai, China. Faced with a completely different culture, my story is full of the typical newly-immigrated plots. Like those whose first language is not English, my family has suffered great culture shock. Life seems to be much more difficult than we imagined when it comes to look for jobs, apply to school or even ask for directions on the road. While every coin has two sides, challenges force people to be independent and more mature. A year later, here comes the brand new me.
I am currently studying Business Administration at Queensborough Community College. After all of my efforts, I have been able to maintain my 4.0 GPA, having been on the Dean’s list since the fall of 2010. I know that I will keep exploring a new level, since I am the person who is in charge of my life. Although I have not decided which field is the best for me. I have wide interests, such as accounting, marketing, psychology and music. I hope that I can combine my interests together when choosing a career path. Being an NYNY Fellow offers me a chance to widen my vision. I am able to open my mind and do what I am really interested in. So when it comes to job hunting, I will have more options.
