Throughout my life, I have proven my willingness and ability to confront difficult challenges.
When I was younger, I suffered from chronic asthma, and it hindered my ability to stay physically active and socialize with friends. Although I became incredibly frustrated, I promised myself that I would not suffer from the disease for the rest of my life, and as a result I ran three half-marathons and am preparing for the 2011 New York City Marathon. I also confronted going to college without anyone to look to for advice. I took my college experience as a unique opportunity, and now I can inspire future generations of my family to pursue their education. Through my fight against asthma, and my academic achievements, I developed my ability to stay consistently determined no matter what kind of challenges I faced.
Because of my strong perseverance, I feel that I would do well in a career in international affairs. Inspired by the strong leadership of the United Nations, I would like to have the chance to interact with leaders and help people all over the world. The United Nations confronts both the challenge of scope and the challenge of the prolonged issues it faces. I am looking forward to applying my determination to confront these matters in the future.
Being a Fellow means that I am one of a select few who have been chosen because of my unique aspirations. It is also a chance to meet successful and driven professionals and students that I would never have met otherwise. Because of my exposure to different opportunities through hearing panelists and attending workshops, I am now considering a law degree when I had never thought it was an option before.
