Mailenny
I was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and moved to New York when I was seven years old to start a new life in the United States. When I moved to the United States, I had a difficult time adjusting to a new culture and a new language. However, from Elementary School to High School I worked to excel academically and I was able to graduate as a Valedictorian at the School for Legal Studies in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. As the eldest of three children and as a first generation college student, I want to become a role model to my younger brother and sister.
Currently, I attend The City University of New York at Baruch College and I am concentrating in Finance and Psychology. In addition to my studies, I am heavily involved in the Finance and Economics Society, the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting, as well as in the New York City Police Department Auxiliary Police Program. After completing my undergraduate studies, I want to use the skills that I have learned to pursue opportunities in the financial industry.
As a New York Needs You Fellow I will have an opportunity to learn and grow as a professional. After completing the NYNY Fellowship, I would like to come back to NYNY as a Mentor-Coach to guide and support our future generations in making their dreams a reality.
