College: John Jay College of Criminal Justice
Kristian
I was born in Secaucus, New Jersey and have lived in Rutherford, New Jersey my whole life. I am currently a rising sophomore in the honors program majoring in Criminal Justice at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. My favorite course thus far has been Introduction to Criminal Justice. This was due to the professor’s interesting narratives while explaining concepts and materials, making the information not only easier to remember, but also more thought-provoking. I work approximately thirty hours a week and the money from my salary pays for my tuition. In addition, I watch and care for my younger brothers when my mother attends her college classes. This balancing of responsibilities is perhaps one of my greatest skills --- working thirty hours a week, attending college full-time, helping my family, and still doing well in school. I have learned to manage my time wisely.
When I graduate with my undergraduate degree, I plan on attending graduate school to get my Master’s degree in Criminal Justice. At this time, my career goals are open, although I am interested in working for the government. I hope to gain new friends and connections in the NYNY Fellowship program, but my broader objective is to discover all available career options for criminal justice and to receive professional guidance.
