Kiara
My name is Kiara and I was born and raised in Manhattan, New York. I grew up in a single parent family and it was very difficult for me to watch my mother's constant struggle to make ends meet. My mother worked very hard to provide for my brother and me, harder than anyone I knew. There were very few holidays that we as a family could actually enjoy a meal together because for my mother there were no holidays or days off. My mother’s determination and hard work have influenced me to work hard for a better future for my family. It is through education that I can achieve this goal. I believe that education would unlock a world of opportunities because it is the most valuable asset a person could possess.
Presently, I am a sophomore at Lehman College and will be transferring to Baruch College in the fall. I intend to major in economics because the way the economy works has captivated and inspired me from a very young age. My goal is to enter the field of finance immediately after graduation and to pursue a master's degree in Finance. One of my greatest accomplishments by far has been my selection as an NYNY Fellow. I believe that NYNY is a stepping stone to my goals, thus a key to success. During my time in the fellowship I will be motivated to construct a clear set of goals for my future as well as to have the opportunity to discover the area of finance that I am truly passionate about.
