College: College of Staten Island
Jose
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in a large family that included my three younger brothers, baby sister and my parents. My poor upbringing, which at times included being homeless, is what motivates me to be successful in all endeavors. Having dropped out of high school at age 15, I spent the next nine years living in my parent’s house regretting that decision. As I reached adulthood at age 18, I acquired my GED on the first attempt with a score of 2970. At age 24 I finally had the realization that my life was going nowhere and I made the decision to return to school full time.
I currently live in Staten Island and attend the CUNY College of Staten Island with the plan to major in Computer Science. As a child, I was always interested in how things worked and was always willing to take something apart to figure it out. Computers in particular appealed to me because I could open them up, break them, and fix them in a million different ways. There is no end to learning when it comes to computers. Since figuring out how computers work has provided me with countless hours of entertainment, I believe it would be the optimal career for me. A career is more than a job, it is a lifestyle. And one needs to enjoy their career for a happy and fulfilling life.
While my future degree in computer science and the career I hope to have as a computer programmer will be the backbone of my professional life, I aspire to have a hand in many different industries. I wish to be a published author one day, writing both fiction and non-fiction. Additionally, I aim to work in the movie industry, creating special effects and 3D programming. I am confident that the NYNY program will put me on the correct path to achieving my goals and I intend to take full advantage of the immense opportunities given to me through the program.
