My journey to America mirrors the ambitious journeys of the early immigrants who built this nation. Like the early immigrants before me, I immigrated to America in search of opportunity. When I arrived from Haiti with my family, I soon realized that the pursuit of the American Dream would not be reached overnight and would require sacrifice, hard work and dedication. I grew up watching my mother and aunt adapt to a foreign land, work several jobs to make ends meet and single-handedly raise a family. I knew that I had to mature quickly to help support my family and that I would face many obstacles along the way. To start, I had to break down the language barrier by learning English. I was careful to avoid the trappings of the inner-city by reminding myself of the obligation to my family. It is this same drive, perseverance and fortitude that brings me to where I am today.
I am currently studying Business Administration at Nassau Community College. Economics is the subject that I find most captivating because it incorporates a variety of topics ranging from business to culture to social and political issues. In order to gain broader access to resources, I plan to transfer to New York University or Baruch College in the fall of 2012 to pursue a B.A. in International Business and Finance. After college, I plan to fulfill my interests and passion for culture, capitalism and multinational business with a career in investment banking. A career in investment banking will allow me to tap into my strengths and passion of analytical thinking, interacting with others and transforming my dreams into reality on a global scale. Eventually, I aspire to give back to my community in Haiti through education, socio-economic development and political reform.
