Growing up, I had to realize the importance of learning how to deal with constantly changing situations. During the first twelve years of my life I was always sheltered by my mother’s authority and growing up was not entirely the best experience. I was forced to take on a great deal of responsibility and constantly dealt with abnormal living conditions such as staying home alone, frequently moving from different apartments and caring for my younger sister. I was rarely given the opportunity to grow up with an average childhood. When I visited my father for the second time in my life, it was difficult for me to adjust. I had not seen him since I was two years old. Although I did not recognize him initially, we worked together in order to rebuild our relationship. I permanently reside with my father, who has been the biggest blessing in my life, because now I have a sense of normalcy and can envision a brighter future.
Currently I attend John Jay College of Criminal Justice as a history major. One of many courses that I favored was philosophy because it challenged me to think outside of my conventional methods of critical thinking and allowed me to interpret situations from different perspectives. My passion is making positive impacts in the lives of others by assisting and uplifting them in everyday needs. My dream career is to become a neurosurgeon. Although my current journey has taken me off course I have several intentions to navigate my ambitions on the preferred path. The first step towards my dream is to transfer from John Jay to a university that is centralized around health. Once I gain acceptance into my desired university I went to gain my bachelor's degree and continue on to medical school. In my two years of being part of the fellowship, I hope to gain a clear perspective of how I want my process towards my career to appear, gain the confidence and strength to follow through with my process and not succumb to my weaknesses, and I want to gain the professional skills that will allow me to be a dominant force in this incessantly competitive society in which we live.
