My mother immigrated to America in her late twenties from China, where she had grown up as a farmer under Mao Zedong’s regime. Once she obtained her citizenship, she returned to China to marry my father and to bring him back to California with her. I was born and raised in the San Francisco East Bay, a place I will always recognize as home. I especially miss it when I dream of sunshine and blue skies.
My decision to leave California for college surprised some people, but it had always seemed to me the next logical step. I wanted to see the world so I decided to attend Barnard College in New York City; I figured it would be a good place to start. New York was where all the famous writers lived, where they were inspired, where they taught, where they wrote. I had come to Barnard College to write, to major in English and to be inspired. I hope that NYNY will be able to help me figure out what I want to do other than write and provide me with the resources so that I can reach my goals. I have complete faith that NYNY will live up to all my expectations and beyond.
