Ayana
My name is Ayana Krystal Atkinson, and I have dreams of becoming a lawyer. I was raised by my mother in a single-parent home. Considering my background and previous lack of opportunities, being a first-generation college student is a major accomplishment. Due to the fact that my mother was unable to attain an education beyond grade school, I take my education very seriously. I watched my mother struggle to provide for me. In return, I want to give back to my mother, my community, and my Mentors who have helped in paving the way for my success.
I will be a “great somebody”, someone who is passionate about helping others, defending justice in every way possible. I dream of graduating from a prestigious law school after graduating from undergraduate college. To myself as well as my family, I will prove that anything is possible; the sky is the limit as long as you put your mind to it. So I will be an attorney. I will give back in the form of justice.
Being an NYNY Fellow is an opportunity of a lifetime. I am now on the path to great success. Gaining admittance to the program, I believe, was my divine right. I was meant to be here, and I will take advantage of every opportunity. To all those involved with NYNY, thank you for giving me a chance to prove to myself that all things are possible. I cannot thank you enough for believing in my dreams and allowing highly educated people to lead and teach me. I am eager to learn, and I am ready to take on any challenge that blocks my path.
