Andre
I am majoring in Finance and Marketing and minoring in Mathematics and Developmental Sociology. Hopefully, I will also play football at Cornell. I am interested in numerous career paths, including being a trader, working in private wealth management, and marketing (primarily for professional sports).
I am a first-generation college student - the foundation of successful future generations. Because I did not have someone to help me see the value of education at an early age, it was difficult for me to stay focused. Without a role model to show the benefits of education, I know how it feels to think that it is pointless. Because of this, I will graduate, because I need to be the role model that I did not have. I will be the one that subsequent generations can look to for help; I will be the one who demonstrates the importance of an education for their lives. I was blessed with this privilege, it is therefore my responsibility to share my experience and empower others.
NYNY truly does connect ambition with opportunity, and being an NYNY Fellow is perhaps the greatest opportunity I have been granted in my adult life. In many cases, it is difficult to succeed without guidance. Being an NYNY Fellow gives me the opportunity to meet successful professionals who have accomplished and surpassed all the goals I have set for myself, and having these individuals serve as Mentor-Coaches is an invaluable experience which makes me aware of what I need to do to achieve my ambitions. I also have the ability to learn from the best and brightest students that New York City has to offer. As a Fellow, I have the honor of hearing from some of the wisest people I have ever met who support me and help guide me toward my future goals.
