New Jersey Needs You - Consultant
New Jersey Needs You - Executive Director


We now seek to replicate our program model in New Jersey through New Jersey Needs You (NJNY), with an initial focus in Newark and New Brunswick through a close partnership with Rutgers University. We seek a consultant for 6-8 weeks who can assist us with initial planning. This consultant may then be given preference when applying for the role of Executive Director of NJNY.

1. Consultant to New Jersey Needs You

The Consultant will undertake a landscape/relationship analysis, primarily of Newark but also of New Brunswick. The Consultant will create a full-scale business plan (with a 3-year forecast) and a launch plan (including highly detailed proposals for timeline, staffing plan and budget). The implementation plans will take into account different scenarios for the launch date: as early as Fall 2012 and as late as Fall 2013. 
Length of Engagement:  6-8 weeks

2. Executive Director of New Jersey Needs You

After we assess the Consultant’s initial plans, we expect to seek a talented and capable Executive Director to lead NJNY. The Executive Director will report directly to the CEO of NYNY and work closely with the NJNY Board and Advisory Board. The ideal candidate should be excited about working in a start-up/entrepreneurial environment and engaging with all of our key stakeholders and constituents. 

Responsibilities

  • Work with NYNY Staff and NJNY Board to finalize a multi-year strategic plan and an operating budget
  • Meet goals to improve the overall performance and growth of the NJNY Fellows Program and the Career Development Program, as outlined in NYNY’s program model
  • Lead the recruiting and training of Fellows and volunteers and the sourcing of internship opportunities
  • Build and manage strategic partnerships with individuals, corporations, other employers, foundations, community based organizations, curriculum developers and college and university administrators to ensure that Fellows are prepared to succeed in their internships and careers
  • Design and implement NJNY’s development and fundraising strategy
  • Recruit and lead the NJNY staff; oversee training and management
  • Serve as a spokesperson for NJNY

Skills and Qualifications

  • Advanced degree required
  • Outstanding relationship management skills and ability to communicate  and work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including college students, volunteers, university partners, Board members and corporate supporters
  • Exceptional drive, significant capacity for management and fundraising and the ability to direct the operations of a start-up, dynamic organization
  • Knowledge of New Jersey’s educational, civic, philanthropic and political landscape, especially in Newark and New Brunswick
  • Proven track record of program development and implementation
  • Ability to lead a site within a larger national network
  • Excellent public speaking, writing and editing skills
  • Ability to mobilize small and large groups to action
  • Proven skills and experience in fundraising
  • Commitment to outcomes driven performance
  • 4-7 years of supervisory experience

Strategic Partnerships Intern Summer 2012 

New York Needs You is seeking an energetic and entrepreneurial intern to join the Strategic Partnerships Department. The intern will gain knowledge of developing and sustaining corporate and nonprofit partnerships, event management, information tracking, and volunteer recruitment and engagement. The intern will have the opportunity to attend planning and department meetings, as well as meetings with corporate and nonprofit partners.

Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Strategic Partnerships, the Strategic Partnerships Intern will provide broad-based database, research and event planning support to the Strategic Partnerships Department. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with Salesforce adoption: customization, data migration, testing and partner research
  • Conducting online research for internship opportunities and partners
  • Helping to prepare materials for initial partnership meetings
  • Event planning support: assisting the Volunteer Engagement Manager and Mentor Leadership Council in planning and providing logistical support for volunteer events
  • Workshop assistance: assisting with the planning of the NYNY Workshops, an integral part of NYNY's flagship Fellows Program

Skills and Qualifications

  • Candidates must be enrolled in a university or college
  • Strong proficiency in Excel
  • General knowledge of MS office and comfort with technology (including web-based platforms)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Familiarity with Salesforce (or other CRMs) preferred
  • Event planning/logistics experience preferred
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to juggle concurrent assignments and prioritize accordingly
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Commitment

  • 15-20 hours per week (willingness to have flexible hours)
  • Duration: June 2012 through August 2012

Compensation

This is a paid position. Interns will receive a stipend and a metro card.

Programs Intern Summer 2012 

New York Needs You is seeking an energetic and entrepreneurial intern to join the NYNY Programs Department. The intern will be actively involved in the planning and execution of the NYNY Workshops, an integral part of NYNY's flagship two-year Fellows Program. The intern will gain knowledge of program planning, event management, information tracking and will have the opportunity to attend planning and department meetings, as well as to take advantage of selected in-house trainings and briefings.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare workshop materials
  • Coordinate event logistics
  • Enter and track key program data
  • Act as a liaison to site point person in regards to space, catering, and A/V needs
  • Communicate information to Mentor Coaches, Fellows and Volunteers at workshops
  • Hand out materials and help with event registration
  • Assist the Volunteer Manager with Fellows and Mentor Coach matching at workshops

Skills and Qualifications

  • Event planning experience (experience with events of 200+ stakeholders preferred) 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent record-keeping skills and high attention to detail
  • Ability to work on Saturdays
  • Ability to think outside the box and to troubleshoot
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Strong management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to excel in a diverse work environment
  • Candidates must be enrolled in a university or college

Commitment

  • 10-15 hours per week
  • Saturday support for the Fellowship Program may be required (1-2 Saturdays per month)
  • Duration: June 2012 through August 2012

Compensation

This is a paid position. Compensation includes a stipend and a metro card.
